Motorcycle Insurance

Motorcycle policies get written on autopilot far too often, and the two things that go wrong are always the same: the custom parts are not covered, and the rider assumes their auto policy's medical coverage carries over. Neither is safe to assume.

What It Covers

The parts of the policy, in plain terms.

  • Liability

Injury and damage you cause to others. Required to register a bike in Pennsylvania.

  • Collision and comprehensive

Damage to the bike itself, plus theft, vandalism, and a deer on a back road at dusk.

  • Custom parts and equipment

Exhaust, bags, seat, paint, chrome. Base policies include only a small allowance, and anything past it has to be scheduled or it simply is not there at claim time.

  • Uninsured and underinsured motorist

Riders come off worse in almost every collision. This is the coverage that matters most when the other driver has almost nothing.

How it plays out

A car turns left across you at an intersection. The bike is repairable, but the aftermarket exhaust and bags are not on the policy, and the base custom-parts allowance covers a fraction of what you put into it. The difference comes out of pocket.

Frequently Asked Questions

Motorcycle Insurance questions we get.

Can I drop coverage over the winter?
You can move to a layup or storage arrangement that keeps comprehensive coverage in force while suspending collision and liability. Cancelling outright is riskier: it breaks continuous coverage, which most carriers price against, and it leaves the bike uncovered for theft or a garage fire.
Are my custom parts covered?
Only up to a small default allowance, if at all. Total up what you have added beyond stock and tell us the figure, and we will schedule it properly. This is the most common gap we find on a motorcycle policy.
Does my auto policy cover me on a motorcycle?
No. Motorcycles need their own policy. Some coverages may extend in narrow ways, but you should not plan around it.

Dave is an amazing agent, and Kim is great too. They both worked very hard to get me the best rates. I felt they had my best interest at heart, not just what was good for them.

I just finished buying a house. My previous agent couldn’t find coverage for it. My realtor told me that “Dave always has an answer for her problems.” She couldn’t have been more right.

I highly recommend David Bartal. David took the time to listen to my circumstances and worked efficiently to get me quotes quickly. Within minutes, I had both my vehicles insured at a price I could actually afford. A very happy and satisfied customer.
