Auto Insurance

Most people buy auto insurance once and then let it renew for a decade. Rates move, carriers change what they want to write, and the policy that was competitive in 2019 usually is not competitive now. As an independent agency we can put your driving record in front of several carriers at once and tell you which one wants it.

What It Covers

The parts of the policy, in plain terms.

  • Liability

Pays for injury and damage you cause to other people. Pennsylvania's required minimums are low enough that a single serious accident can blow straight through them, which is where the rest of your assets start to matter.

  • Collision and comprehensive

Collision handles damage to your own car in a crash. Comprehensive handles the rest: deer, hail, a tree limb, theft, a cracked windshield on the Casey Highway.

  • Full tort vs. limited tort

A Pennsylvania-specific choice that saves a little on premium and gives up your right to sue for pain and suffering in most accidents. It is worth understanding before you pick it, not after.

  • Uninsured and underinsured motorist

Covers you when the driver who hit you has no insurance or nowhere near enough. This is the coverage people are most often thin on and most often need.

How it plays out

Someone runs a light on Mulberry Street and totals your car. They carry the state minimum, your medical bills run past it, and their policy is exhausted. Underinsured motorist coverage on your own policy picks up from there. Without it, that gap is yours.

Frequently Asked Questions

Auto Insurance questions we get.

Should I take full tort or limited tort in Pennsylvania?
Limited tort costs less and gives up your right to recover for pain and suffering in most accidents, with some exceptions. Full tort keeps that right. The premium difference is usually modest, and the trade only shows up after a serious injury, so it is worth deciding deliberately rather than defaulting to whichever is cheaper on the quote.
Will bundling my home and auto actually save money?
Usually, and it also makes claims simpler because one agent sees your whole picture. How much depends on the carrier and on both risks, so we quote it both ways and show you the real numbers instead of promising a percentage.
How much liability coverage do I actually need?
A useful rule of thumb is enough to cover what you could lose. If you own a home and have savings, state minimum limits leave those exposed. Many clients carry higher auto limits and add an umbrella policy on top, which is often cheaper than raising the auto limits alone.
Can you write auto insurance outside Pennsylvania?
We are licensed in Pennsylvania, Michigan, New York, New Jersey, Ohio, Maryland and Virginia. Availability of a specific carrier varies by state, so give us a call and we will tell you what we can place where you live.

Dave is an amazing agent, and Kim is great too. They both worked very hard to get me the best rates. I felt they had my best interest at heart, not just what was good for them.

I just finished buying a house. My previous agent couldn’t find coverage for it. My realtor told me that “Dave always has an answer for her problems.” She couldn’t have been more right.

I highly recommend David Bartal. David took the time to listen to my circumstances and worked efficiently to get me quotes quickly. Within minutes, I had both my vehicles insured at a price I could actually afford. A very happy and satisfied customer.
