Classic & Collector Car Insurance

The whole point of a collector policy is agreed value. A standard auto policy pays what a claims adjuster says a 1967 car is worth, which is an argument you will lose. An agreed-value policy settles that number with you in advance, in writing, before anything happens.

What It Covers

The parts of the policy, in plain terms.

  • Agreed value

You and the carrier set the figure at the start. A total loss pays that figure, with no depreciation argument.

  • Spare parts

The parts on the shelf are covered too, which matters if you have been collecting them for a decade.

  • Coverage during restoration

Value can be stepped up as the work progresses, so a car mid-restoration is not insured for what it was worth when it arrived on a trailer.

  • Flexible use

Shows, club events, parades and pleasure driving. Mileage terms are far more generous than they used to be, and vary by carrier.

How it plays out

A tree comes down on the garage in a summer storm. The car is a total loss. On a standard auto policy the settlement starts from a book value that has nothing to do with what the car is. On an agreed-value policy the number was settled the day the policy was written.

Frequently Asked Questions

Classic Car questions we get.

How is the agreed value set?
From documentation of the car: condition, originality, recent comparable sales, and often photos. Getting this right at the outset is the single most valuable thing you do on a collector policy.
Can I drive the car normally?
Not as a daily driver, but modern collector policies are much less restrictive than the old blanket mileage caps. Shows, club runs and pleasure driving are expected. Commuting is not.
Does my car need to be finished to insure it?
No. A car under restoration can be covered, with the value stepped up as the work progresses so the policy tracks what has actually gone into it.

Dave is an amazing agent, and Kim is great too. They both worked very hard to get me the best rates. I felt they had my best interest at heart, not just what was good for them.

I just finished buying a house. My previous agent couldn’t find coverage for it. My realtor told me that “Dave always has an answer for her problems.” She couldn’t have been more right.

I highly recommend David Bartal. David took the time to listen to my circumstances and worked efficiently to get me quotes quickly. Within minutes, I had both my vehicles insured at a price I could actually afford. A very happy and satisfied customer.
